BESUT:  Parents have been urged to join the National Education Savings Scheme (SSPN)-i Plus which would help their children pursue tertiary education.
Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh said the savings was the best way of planning their children’s future and should be taken up by all Malaysians.
“SSPN-i Plus is actually a gift to all Malaysians as it is the best savings plan which is not only guaranteed by the government but is also syariah-compliant.
“Parents who participate in the scheme will be given tax rebates of up to RM12,000 a year and they are automatically eligible for the lucky draws with more than 300 prizes worth RM1.5 million a year,” he said.
He was speaking to reporters after launching a gathering of the National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) with the people at Sekolah Menengah Imtiaz Besut here yesterday.
Also present was PTPTN chief executive officer Wan Ahmad Wan Yusoff.
Idris said just by keeping RM1 a day, parents would be assured of education savings for their children, as well as various special benefits and comprehensive insurance coverage of up to RM40,000.
He said since it was launched last June until Sept 15 this year, 22,901 SSPN-i Plus accounts had been opened with the total savings deposit of RM6.9 million as well as takaful insurance coverage of RM1.7 billion.
“During the same period in Terengganu, 1,763 SSPN-i Plus accounts were opened, with a total savings deposit of RM369,000 and takaful insurance coverage of RM75.6 million,” he said.  — Bernama
